What a glorious weekend we have just had.

I’ve been out enjoying some of these bright, crisp, clear days. There is still far more light in even a cloudy winters day than in artificial light. Indoor lighting can be as little as 100 lux, whereas even a cloudy winter day is about 1000. My light pod gives out about 10000 lux (at a distance of about 12 inches) and a summer day can be all the way up to 100,000 lux. The more time spent outdoors in daylight the better. The brighter the day, the less time you need to spend outside to get the benefits.

Lux is not a measurement of UV light- so a tanning salon isn’t a substitute for being outside and being outside still works even if you are covered in sun block or, more likely, wrapped up nice and warm.

Right now, the weather is definitely trying to kid on that Spring is here, and I, for one, am prepared to go along with the joke.

Winter may well have the last laugh: There will probably be a few miserable days to come and we still haven’t had the lambing snows.

But I’d rather be optimistic and upbeat even if you are occasionally disappointed, than be pessimistic and consequently miserable and occasionally proved right, especially when the only reward of being proved rightis yet another opportunity to be miserable.

So, I’ll raise a half full glass to many outdoor jaunts to come!
