National Resource Centre for Ethnic Minority Health
People from our ethnic minorities face specific challenges to their mental health and wellbeing. There are also cultural differences between communities in the way that mental health problems are viewed and acted upon. Language barriers present further difficulties to some people in trying to access services and information in Scotland. Taken together, these issues mean that 'one size fits all' type approaches will not meet the needs of our minority ethnic communities.
Informing change, improving practice
The Resource Centre exists to ensure that the needs of our ethnic minorities are taken into account whenever new work on planning services and policies takes place. It also acts as a focal point for the sharing of information and best practice in providing services to ethnic minority groups.
The National Resource Centre for Ethnic Minority Health and the National Programme
The Resource Centre, part of Health Scotland, is helping to work towards the National Programme's central vision – to improve the mental health and wellbeing of all people living in Scotland and to improve the quality of life and social inclusion of people who experience mental health problems.
