Macdonald Calls Time On Rounds Culture A new advertising campaign asks Scots to take responsibility for themselves and to think first before they encourage others to have ‘just another drink.’ Launched today by Deputy Health Minister Lewis Macdonald, a TV, cinema, and billboard poster campaign - supported by a new website and telephone helpline service - will aim to challenge Scotland’s attitude to alcohol which can lead to personal harm and the encouragement of harmful drinking by others.

Choose Life Welcomes New Press Guidelines on Reporting Suicide Choose Life, Scotland’s national strategy to prevent suicide, has today welcomed the decision by Press Complaints Commission (PCC) to introduce a new clause to the Editor’s Code of Practice to address media reporting of suicide. Caroline Farquhar, Head of Implementation for Choose Life said “This is a really positive step forward. There is significant evidence from around the world showing that irresponsible reporting of suicide, providing a detailed description of methods used, can lead to copycat behaviour.

Unique collection of stories inspire hope for recovery from mental illness. The Scottish Recovery Network (SRN) is launching a groundbreaking booklet aimed at improving Scottish people’s awareness and understanding about recovery from long-term mental health problems. “Journeys of Recovery” is comprised of 12 personal stories from people living and recovering from mental ill health in Scotland. These stories give real insights into the lives of people in recovery and also show what helped in this process.
